What is Belegarth

Belegarth Medieval Combat Society is a fun, safe, and inexpensive sport where participants wear medieval or fantasy-themed clothing and fight with foam-padded weapons. The fighting is hard and fast and has, since 1979, refined into its own brand of martial art. The rules are easy to learn, and after a few practices, you’ll be hooked!

Belegarth provides a great environment for both serious role players and those who would rather just fight. Most groups base themselves loosely on Tolkein's Middle Earth, but this isn't a requirement. You choose the character you want to portray; if you can dream it, you can do it. The amount of effort you to put into your characterization is up to you.

With Belegarth Medieval Combat Society groups all over the world, there should be one near you. If there isn't, you can start one, and we will do everything we can to help you and your new group succeed.

Spectators

Belegarth is a small home grown game and simultaneously a fast paced exiting medieval combat sport experience. Belegarth is a fantastic option for a relaxed family night out at the park.

Chapters hold regular public practices (usually weekly) as well as holding show case practices.

Regular practices are much less formal and low key and have a very relaxed laid back atmosphere. They allow for plenty of time to interact with players and ask questions during water breaks.

Show Case Practices are more formal, and have a mini ren-fair atmosphere about them. Often there will be more than just fighting, and other medieval arts shown as well. Most notably players will be eager to show you their armour, and might even let you try it on!
